Domain Authority vs Domain Rating
How two popular third-party metrics differ and why neither is a Google ranking score.
How two popular third-party metrics differ and why neither is a Google ranking score.
Metrics are proxies
Third-party authority scores can help triage large datasets, but they are not Google scores. Use them comparatively and pair them with relevance, page quality, traffic evidence, indexing, outbound-link behavior, and editorial context.
Compare on four dimensions
- Editorial independence: who controls the site and placement?
- Relevance: does the page genuinely belong in the topic?
- Control: how much influence do you have over page, anchor and destination?
- Risk: is the link earned, sponsored and qualified, or primarily intended to manipulate rankings?
Decision rule
Prefer the method that can create a useful reason for the link to exist for readers. More control can make execution predictable, but it can also make a pattern look less editorial.
